Summer Is For Sunglasses - The hottest eyewear trends for SS15

Sunglasses have always been one of THE most stylish (and practical) accessories for Spring/Summer and this year proves to be no different. Almost all of the designers showcasing their SS15 collections have had their models adorn eclectic yet amazing eye-wear.

As with clothing and other major accessory trends for the season, some trends have remained and some have changed. More recent eye-wear trends have moved away from the 3D look of last years Chanel pearls and Dolce and Gabbana Baroque shades to incorporate a more sharp and eccentric look. Some trends, however, are here to stay - The dependable aviators seems to be sticking around for a good few more seasons. We also see a continuation of the cat-eye and round and retro shades, with updated tweaks for the upcoming season.

A look at some of the hottest catwalk trends from the SS15 designer collections -

Round and Retro

The Dorin Negrau SS15 fashion show seemed to have a recurring spider theme with some models covered in spider webs as well as sporting spider-like make-up effects (especially around the lip area.)  Monochrome dominated in this collection with a splash of accessories. Whilst the collection itself was questionable, what stood out was the retro black round frames. Also rocking the round and retro trend ala Miu Miu 2013, was Bibhu Mohapatra as well as the Carolina Herrera models at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.

Cat-Eye

A continuation of the ever-popular cat-eye sunglass trend was apparent on the runways of Fendi and Jenny Packham. As seen on the Fendi runway, cat-eye sunnies sported brightly coloured frames (tying in perfectly with the warm-hued collection.)  Scores of celebrities have been spotted wearing cat-eye sunglasses in frames ranging from orange and blue to bright yellow. Prints are also huge for SS15 and sunglasses are no exception - from prints to florals to striped, the frames are sporting some hip and beautiful prints.

Big & Boxed

Huge, box-like frames were proved to be a winner in recent collections. The Anna Sui collection showcased big box-liked frames in a stark black, whilst other designers such as Max Mara and Emporio Armani showcased sunglasses with coloured frames and more transparent lenses.
Too extreme or Totally Trendy?

The most eccentric, innovative and perhaps the most-talked about frames for this season was seen on the Balenciaga runway. Alexander Wang looked to the future with these futuristic sunglasses, attached to the head with a beaded headband.

Other hot trends -

More trends for this season include highbrows. Highbrows are HOT this season and have been seen on the streets of Milan, London and Paris. Other trends to look out for are mathematical frames and funky and fun frames such as heart -shaped frames as seen on the Moschino runway.

Get the look

Miu Miu I believe was one of the first brands to shine with the round and retro shades, and are available in black as well as a variety of prints. Other designers such as Dolce and Gabbana took a more trendy approach to the round look and the frames are decked with polka dots (another one of the SS15 hot trends - think Dolce & Gabbana and Marc Jacobs) The gorgeous Shashi Naidoo sports Top Shop frames.

Whilst sussing out eyewear trends, I spotted the stylish Shaheeda of Style by Shaheeda rocking her Prada cat-eye sunnies and fashion-forward Basheera Kathrada sporting an amazing high-brow ASOS sunglasses. I am wearing Top Shop sunnies (also available in black and yellow.)

Your accessories are an expression of yourself. However you choose to sport your sunnies, whether classic or funky (and there is no right or wrong), make sure that the frame is the perfect fit for YOU. That's a wrap on sunglasses & SS15...

Positive vibes & The Mandatory xoxo
